Sir Richard Bishop – Graviton Polarity Detector LP (Social Music)

Sir Rick presents a full-length for Mike McGonigal’s Social Music series, which goes way off the spectrum of his more recent material for Drag City. Given the heavy sci-fi notions of the title, the music sets off on a similarly doomed tangent, half thick, Xenakis-style guitar/organ drone orgies of discordant, hellish demeanor, and the other half all over the place. Very little folk guitar is on display here, though the depth of skill Bishop has used on the instrument is not lost, and maybe even intensified through the extremity of this work. One of his noisiest and least-friendly offerings, and a good change of pace. It’ll burn the hair off your arms. Limited to 350 copies. (http://www.socialmusicrecords.com)
